A first-lap crash took out five cars

The captain of St. Petersburg only got through a few corners before the yellow and finally the red flag flew. As the field snaked its way through three double boards, contact between Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist caused a chain reaction breakdown after Helio Castroneves, Simon Pagenaud, Santino Ferrucci, Sting Ray Robb, Devlin DeFrancesco and Benjamin Pederson collected.

DeFrancesco took a hard hit as his car was thrown into the air after Pederson hit him. Amazingly, DeFrancesco was the first driver released from the medical center on site. Dixon, Rosenqvist and Robb all made it to the pit lane and could continue their racing days.
